JAZMINE JAMAI
SLAM POET | BLACK CULTURE ENTHUSIAST
A national performance poet and storyteller creating culturally rooted spoken word experiences for events, universities, festivals, and community programs.
FEATURED AT
I tell the stories we’ve lived but don’t always say out loud.
I honor black stories through honest, rhythmic, soul-centered poetry.
My work is rooted in the places and people who shaped me - Detroit, the Black church, and the generations of women and men whose strength, softness, and complexity live in every poem I write.
Ways We Can Work Together
Whether you’re planning a cultural event, campus program, leadership retreat, church gathering, or creative workshop, I bring performance poetry and storytelling that invite people to feel, reflect, and connect.
Performance Poetry
Book me as a featured performance poet for your event.
I perform up to three poems, each 2–4 minutes long, chosen or tailored to fit your theme, tone, and audience. My sets blend humor, nostalgia, conviction, and love for Black culture, creating moments your audience will talk about long after the event ends. Ideal for festivals, universities, conferences, churches, and curated arts programs.
Writing Workshops
Interactive poetry and writing workshops for writers, students, and teams.
These 1-2 hour workshops invite participants to write from their own stories, explore culture and memory on the page, and build confidence in their voice. Perfect for schools, colleges, community organizations, and business teams looking for a creative, connection-centered experience. Sessions can be tailored to your group’s age, skill level, and goals.
Custom Poems
Personalized poems for people, moments, and milestones.
If you’re honoring a loved one, a community, a legacy, or a special event, I create a custom poem centered on your story and theme. I require at least 2 weeks’ notice for writing-only requests, and 1 month if you’d like me to perform the poem at your event. Custom poems are great for ceremonies, celebrations, memorials, campaigns, and special programs.
“The only thing more dangerous than being Black is
being quiet
So we lift our voices
Not just because we’re happy
Most often when we’re trying
Cause ain’t nothing beating failure
But black voices
ringing the alarm”
excerpt from original piece, Sounds of Blackness
